Temple University’s School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) ranks among the nation’s top-10 producers of faculty-authored research.

STHM has been ranked No. 5 nationally and No. 13 worldwide in tourism and hospitality management research for a four-year period from 2011-2015, according to the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy (SRC).

The SRC is the official publisher of the Academic Ranking of World Universities — a fully independent rankings report of higher-education research institutions released annually since 2009.

The SRC’s methodology recognizes universities for the production of high-impact research. It takes into account: research papers produced by an institution’s faculty; the total number of faculty who contributed to award-winning papers; the number of papers published in leading journals; the number of papers with international collaborators; and an independently produced metric for ascertaining the average impact of papers.

“This ranking is recognition of the stellar work of our faculty, and is nothing short of impressive,” said Dr. Ceridwyn King, Associate Professor and Chair of STHM’s Tourism and Hospitality Management department. “Our faculty’s innovative work and ongoing commitment has enabled Temple University to become a significant player on both the national and international tourism and hospitality management stages, which bodes well for our school’s bright future.”

“Considering the size and relative youth of our program, this ranking serves as validation of the work accomplished by our colleagues,” said Dr. Xiang (Robert) Li, STHM Professor and Director of the school’s U.S.-Asia Center for Tourism and Hospitality Management Research. “The ranking also will further enhance our school’s status as an internationally recognized research powerhouse in the field of tourism and hospitality.”

Founded in 1998, STHM is the Philadelphia region’s largest provider of sport, recreation, tourism, and hospitality management education, with more than 25 full-time faculty and nearly 1,000 students. Visit sthm.temple.edu for more information.
