STHM

GRADUATE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The School of Sport, Tourism, and Hospitality Management (STHM) prioritizes the professional development and career readiness of its students. STHM offers a robust internship program, allowing students to gain valuable industry experience through both part-time and full-time placements. These internships can be for academic credit or non-credit, providing flexibility to suit individual needs and academic goals.

STHM students are encouraged to collaborate with their STHM CSS Academic Advisor to determine the optimal timing for an internship within their graduation plan. This collaborative approach ensures a seamless integration of the internship experience with academic coursework, maximizing its impact on student learning and career preparation.

Internship Programs

Gain Practical Experience in the Sport, Tourism, and Hospitality Industry

Internship I is a 3-credit course designed for Sport, Tourism, and Hospitality Management (STHM) students seeking to gain valuable industry exposure through a part-time, for-credit internship. This program provides a unique opportunity to:

Apply Classroom Knowledge: Bridge the gap between theory and practice by applying concepts learned in coursework to real-world industry settings.

Explore Career Paths: Gain firsthand experience in different facets of the STHM field, aiding in career exploration and decision-making.

Develop Industry Expertise: Enhance your understanding of the industry and its current trends, strengthening your professional network.

Course Structure and Requirements:

For-Credit and Graded: The experience is a for-credit course with a corresponding letter grade based on performance during the internship and related coursework.

Time Commitment: Students are required to complete a minimum of 180 internship hours over a single semester. The program is offered during fall (15 weeks), spring (15 weeks), and summer (12 weeks) semesters.

Next Steps: For detailed information and application procedures, please refer to the STHM Center for Industry Engagement canvas resource page or contact a program advisor – sthmcie@temple.edu

Internship Eligibility: Ensuring Academic Preparedness

To ensure a successful internship experience, all participating students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

Academic Standing: Maintain a good academic standing with a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00.

Academic Record: Resolve all Incomplete (“I”) and Missing Grade (“MG”) notations on your academic transcript before the semester preceding your internship.

Internship Information Session: Must attend the mandatory Graduate Internship On-Boarding Session with the STHM CIE; and complete paperwork outlined by the determined deadline

Academic Standing Considerations: Students with a cumulative GPA below 3.0 or those on academic warning/probation may still be eligible to participate in the internship program. However, their applications will undergo a case-by-case review by the CSPD to ensure their academic preparedness aligns with the demands of the internship experience.

We encourage all students to strive for academic excellence and meet the standard eligibility criteria. However, if extenuating circumstances exist, we recommend reaching out to the STHM CIE for guidance on the case-by-case review process.
