Office of Student Services Mission Statement
The mission of the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management's Office of Student Services is to encourage a collaborative relationship between advisor and student, ultimately empowering the student to make sound and responsible decisions concerning his or her education. The student takes an active role in the utilization of the services offered by his or her college and the university at large, while the academic advisor strives to assist the student with his or her academic, cultural, emotional, and pre-professional needs.

Walk-in Wednesdays Announced!
The Office of STHM Student Services is please to announce the addition of Walk-in hours. On Wednesdays during certain hours, STHM students will be able to receive advising without an appointment. Walk-ins will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.
To accommodate demand, students are limited to 10 minute time periods during walk-in hours. Students who know they will need more time are encouraged to use the Make an Appointment Online option.

Group Advising
- The fall 2009 Group Advising Schedule and registration process is now available. Students should read carefully the Group Advising Flyer. Attendance is MANDATORY for all students except those whose last semester will be spring 2010.
Group Advising is a key component of every STHM student’s advising experience. Group Advising sessions occur each fall and each spring in the weeks prior to registration.
At Group Advising, the Student Services staff is able to ensure that each STHM student receives pertinent curriculum and policy information along with important announcements and updates. The Fall 2009 presentation can now be reviewed.
Attendance at a Group Advising session each fall and each spring is mandatory for all STHM students and students who do not attend are not able to access Individual Advising during the registration period.
Individual Advising
The Student Services staff is here to assist students and support them throughout their academic careers. Students can make an appointment to meet individually with an advisor using the "Make an Appointment Online" button, below.
Prior to meeting with an advisor, students are encouraged to independently seek answers using the STHM webpages, the Undergraduate Bulletin, departmental websites, etc. Additionally, the Student Services staff urges students to come to their advising appointment prepared with questions, concerns, any relevant documents, etc.

Declare a Concentration
Students can declare a Concentration option online. In order to receive a Concentration completion indication on their official transcripts, students must complete two courses within a Concentration option, the related capstone course, Internship II, and Senior Project within the related industry. (Please note that while declaring a Concentration is optional, completing 2 electives in the major is not. Students not wishing to declare a Concentration must still choose two of the classes listed under Concentrations.)
Registration Information: Course Descriptions, Schedule, and Prerequisites/Co-requisites
Students can review Course descriptions for Undergraduate courses offered by the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management. When choosing courses, students should be mindful of prerequisites and co-requisites. If a course has a prerequisite, students must, according to Temple policy, fulfill the prerequisite.
Temple University's Online Course Schedule lists all courses being offered for a specific semester, along with course numbers, course reference numbers, and section numbers. Students should utilize this information to register for classes through OWLnet.
Academic Records
Current students can access Temple's OWLnet to acquire a copy of their DARS (degree audit recording system), a copy of their roster/schedule, semester schedule revision issues, billing/account information, etc.
Course Waiting List
If students would like to register for a course that has been closed, they do not need to wait to meet with an academic advisor. They can add their names to an online course waiting list. The current course waiting list is for Fall 2009.
STHM Junior and Senior Internship Policy

The School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) Internship Program strives to place STHM students into meaningful internships that provide knowledge of the sport, recreation, tourism, and hospitality industries and to prepare students for their future endeavors in the workplace. These practical experiences, along with the academic experience in the classroom, give STHM students the knowledge and experience necessary to start a successful career. As such, several policies have been implemented to ensure students are well-prepared to enter the industry for their practical experiences. Please review these policies for specific details.
Student-Athlete Internship Policy
Policy for Student-Athletes Completing Junior and Senior Internship
Effective: 5/19/09
The School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) Internship Program strives to place STHM students into meaningful internships that provide knowledge of the sport, recreation, tourism, and hospitality industries and to prepare students for their future endeavors in the workplace. These practical experiences, along with the academic experience in the classroom, give STHM students the knowledge and experience necessary to start a successful career.
All students seeking an internship experience are expected to comply by the eligibility requirements outlined in the STHM Junior and Senior Internship Policy. (See STHM website, http://sthm.temple.edu/current/policies.html.)
Student-athletes at Temple University can perform internships in the Temple University Intercollegiate Athletic Department; however, they are not permitted to complete the internship experience with any sport team, including a team of which they are a member. Internships must be completed in athletic administration (marketing, media relations, or compliance) and are not permitted in coaching, sports medicine, or strength training. Each department (marketing, media relations, or compliance) is allowed one intern (student-athlete or non-student-athlete) per semester.
All potential internships are subject to approval once an official Offer Letter and Job Description is submitted to the STHM Center for Student Professional Development.
