MINORS AND CERTIFICATES

The School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) offers minor and certificates in areas relevant to our industries. These programs allow all Temple University students to enhance their education by expanding their knowledge and experience, helping them to become a more well-rounded professional.


Minors

All Temple University undergraduate students may enroll in an STHM minor. These 18 credit programs integrate foundational business principles with innovative concepts related directly to the distinct industries we serve.

MINOR IN SPORT MANAGEMENT

The Minor in Sport Management prepares students to lead and succeed in the fast-paced world of sport, recreation and leisure management. This 18 credit minor integrates foundational business principles with innovative concepts related directly to the distinct industry of sport.

MINOR IN TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT

The Minor in Tourism and Hospitality Management is designed to prepare students to take leadership roles in tourism and hospitality management industries. The 18 credit program integrates foundational business principles with innovative concepts related directly to the distinct industry of tourism and hospitality.

MINOR IN EVENT AND ENTERTAINMENT MANAGEMENT

The Minor in Event and Entertainment Management is designed to provide students with the theoretical and practical skills to become leaders in the event and entertainment industries. The 18 credit minor integrates foundational business principles with innovative concepts related directly to the distinct event and entertainment industries.


CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS

All Temple University undergraduate students may enroll in the STHM certificate programs. These 12 credit programs offer a focused approach to specific aspects of working in the tourism, hospitality, sport, recreation and event industries.

Certificate in Esports

The Certificate in Esports provides students a foundation for understanding business and managerial elements of esports. Esports represents a sport entertainment product requiring management expertise related to events, merchandise, sponsorship, endorsements, marketing, technology, human resources, social media, governance, legal issues, celebrity culture, and athlete well-being. Each of the courses involve synchronous and asynchronous learning delivered in seven-week on-line intensive formats.

Certificate in Event Management

The Certificate in Event Management exposes students to courses that will prepare them to lead and succeed in the dynamic world of event planning and management. The program is designed to be integrated into any major outside of STHM and will deliver marketable skills that can be applied in any field.

Certificate in Sport Management

The Certificate in Sport Management introduces students to the fast-paced world of sport, recreation and leisure management. The sport management program integrates foundational business principles with innovative concepts related directly to the distinct industry of sport.

Certificate in Sport Marketing

The Certificate in Sport Marketing prepares students to understand the different facets of marketing and how it relates to the sport and recreation industry. Students gain a foundation of business principles and are able to customize the program through different electives.

Certificate in Tourism and Hospitality Management

The Certificate in Tourism and Hospitality Management enhances students’ knowledge of the hospitality industry as well as the realm of tourism. The program integrates foundational business principles, tourism and destination specific knowledge as well as innovative concepts relevant to success within hospitality operations, food and beverage, gaming and event leadership.


Declaring a Minor or Certificate

Current Temple University students interested in declaring a minor or certificate in the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) can do so in two easy steps.

  1. Review the requirements for the minor or certificate in the Bulletin.
  2. Meet with your academic advisor in your school or college to discuss adding the certificate to your current program.
  3. Complete the STHM Minor and Certificate Declaration Form. If approved, it will be electronically submitted to the Office of the University Registrar. In 3-5 business days, the request will be processed and then visible within Self-Service Banner (Student Information).

To seek assistance in monitoring your progress, students are asked to meet with an academic advisor during walk-in hours. Students unavailable during walk-in hours and those who need to have in-depth conversations can utilize the Academic Advising Appointment System.
