As part of the curriculum at the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM), all undergraduate students are required to complete two internships prior to graduating. The first internship, Internship I is a minimum of 180 hours over the course of a semester. The second internship, Internship II is a minimum of 600 hours over the course of a semester.
The Center for Student Professional Development (CSPD) coordinates the internship program for undergraduate students. Those interested in completing an internship must be academically approved by the CSPD prior to applying for internships in order to receive academic credit.
This internship process begins the semester prior to when a student anticipates completing their internship.
Internship I – STHM 3185 is to be completed once a student has met certain eligibility requirements as defined by CSPD during their junior year. Internship I is meant to expose students to the industry and give them further knowledge about their direction in their chosen career path.
Internship I is a minimum of 180 hours over the course of one semester (15 weeks fall/spring semesters; 12 weeks summer semester) and worth 3 academic credits.
Internship I Requirements:
Please note:If a student is on an academic status [warning/probation] is on a third attempt of an STHM requirement or has a cumulative grade point average below 2.30, a student’s CSPD approval will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Internship II – STHM4185 is the final culminating experience and academic requirement an STHM student has prior to graduating. Students will select an internship that reflects their future career interests. Internship II is a minimum of 600 hours over the course of 15 weeks during the fall/spring semesters or 480 hours over the course of 12 weeks during the summer semester.

All Internship Approval Agreements for Internship I and Internship II will be submitted electronically for review. No paper approval agreements will be accepted.
