True believers that #ChangeStartsWithSport, Temple University students Chazz Joseph and Amber Hofenk Jerembo are about to embark on the trip of a lifetime.

They will join 12 other Temple students and four faculty members on a nine-day service immersion experience to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games from Aug. 23 through Sept. 1.

Studying sports management and business, the students are enrolled in the course “The Paralympic Movement: Inclusive Sport Design.” Once in Paris, they will play active roles supporting Team USA.

With up to 4,400 athletes from across the globe competing in front of more than one million spectators, we asked them what they look forward to as they get ready to embark on these iconic games.

How does it feel to be contributing to this world-renowned event?

CJ: The chance to be part of the Paralympic Games is both an honor and a privilege. I am committed to putting my best foot forward supporting Team USA anyway I can. This experience will not only allow me to grow personally and professionally but also enable me to be part of a global celebration of athleticism and resilience.

AHJ: This experience allows me to combine my love for sports, my desire to make a difference, and my passion for international cooperation. It’s a unique opportunity to witness firsthand the power of sport to unite people across cultures and abilities. I’m eager to learn, contribute, and be part of an event that celebrates human potential and resilience. The Paralympics demonstrate that there are no limits to what determined individuals can achieve. Being able to play a role in this inspiring showcase is something I’ll cherish forever.

How are you preparing for your service roles at the games?

CJ: The global immersion coursework emphasizes hands-on experience, teamwork and adaptive thinking, which are crucial for such a dynamic environment.

AHJ: This knowledge we’ve gained isn’t just academic—it’s practical information that will help us navigate the experience more effectively and contribute more meaningfully.

What I particularly appreciate is their commitment to inclusivity. By distributing information from the Zoom sessions to all students, regardless of attendance, they’ve ensured everyone stays informed about the crucial rules and regulations. This level of support demonstrates their dedication to our success and the success of the Games.

What was your motivation to embark on this service immersion experience?

CJ: The thought of supporting Team USA on a global stage is incredibly motivating. It drives me to bring my A-game and give my all to ensure our athletes have the best possible experience. This service immersion experience is a unique opportunity to contribute to something bigger than myself while getting the chance to explore another country.

AHJ: What truly excites me is the unique nature of the Paralympic Games. This isn’t just a trip to Paris. Rather, it’s a chance to be part of something extraordinary. Sometimes I have to pinch myself when I think about this opportunity. To be in Paris, one of the world’s most beautiful cities, supporting world-class athletes at the Paralympic Games – it’s a dream come true.

Is there one Paralympian that you would be starstruck to meet?

CJ: I would be honored to meet Oksana Masters, a 17-time Paralympic medalist in both summer and winter sports!

AHJ:  Hunter Woodhall has really captured my attention. I first discovered him through social media, and his journey is truly remarkable.

Any final thoughts?

CJ: As a senior, this is the perfect way to start off my last year and propel me into my professional career.

AHJ: I’m so thankful for this opportunity—now let’s head to Paris!
