Long before she knew what career she wanted, Chloe Getz, MSSB ‘26, knew one thing for certain: she was going to Temple University.

After attending her first Temple basketball game at 7 years old, Getz remembers turning to her dad with complete certainty.

“I’m going to go here,” she told him.

Years later, she followed through on that childhood promise, earning not one, but two degrees from Temple!

Arriving on Temple’s campus as a freshman, what she did not know then was that Temple would become much more than the school she had dreamed of attending. It would become the place where she found her career

Getz settled into her undergraduate major in adult and organizational development in the university’s College of Education and Human Development, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 2024. But her experiences outside the classroom kept pulling her toward athletics. This pull would eventually lead her to earn her Master of Science in Sport Business (MSSB) from Temple’s School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management and confirm her love for college athletics!

Remembering her experience as a young girl at the Temple basketball game, led Getz to one of the most unexpected decisions of her Temple experience: becoming Hooter the Owl – Temple’s beloved mascot!

As Temple’s mascot, Getz was suddenly in the middle of TU Athletics. She attended games, university events and athletic department functions, all while getting an inside look at how much work happens behind the scenes to make college athletics run. Seeing behind the curtain of college athletics, Getz knew she wanted more.

She took on an additional role helping with on-campus recruiting visits for TU football – showing prospective student-athletes around campus, assisting with junior days, official visits, unofficial visits and the countless day-to-day responsibilities.

Additional experience with Temple men’s basketball and a growing interest in recruiting eventually led her to Temple Athletics’ compliance office, where she learned the NCAA bylaws, recruiting regulations and eligibility rules that operate behind the scenes.

For the first time, she was not just around college athletics. She was in college athletics – she was where she belonged.

With a renewed confidence in her career goals, Getz knew the MSSB program was a logical next step – she would learn from some of the top scholars while getting hands-on experience from industry leaders through a graduate externship with Temple Athletic’s compliance department.

“Being a graduate extern really exposed me to working with different coaches, different programs, and getting that inside look at how things are actually done,” she said.

Getz knew she wanted to work full-time in collegiate athletics. With graduation looming, she knew she was building the experience, but she still needed the full-time opportunity.

So once again, she put herself in the room.

Getz traveled to Nashville for a recruiting and player personnel symposium.

“I printed a stack of resumes and just started talking to people,” she said.

One of those conversations happened with longtime compliance professional Jim Booz. The two spoke about Temple, compliance and the career Getz was building.

A few weeks later, while sitting in a MSSB class, she received a message from Booz. He had accepted a new position at Auburn University and wanted to know if she would be interested in hearing about a role he thought she would be a perfect fit for.

What followed happened quickly: a phone call, an interview and then another call she still remembers clearly.

“How do you feel about being an Auburn Tiger?” she recalled him asking.

Within days, Getz accepted the offer to become assistant director of compliance at Auburn. She finished her responsibilities at Temple, packed up her life in Pennsylvania and made the more than 800-mile move to Alabama.

The transition was sudden, overwhelming and exciting all at once. Auburn meant a new state, a new staff and a new athletic culture inside the Southeastern Conference, one of the biggest stages in college sports.

“I’ve probably been the most appreciative of this because I’ve learned so much personally, professionally and individually,” she said.

Even in the middle of all that change, Getz knew exactly what had made her ready for it. Every step pointed back to Temple.

Every experience Temple provided and the access she gained while in the MSSB program and with her graduate externship in compliance, gave her another piece of the foundation she needed. More than that, Temple gave her the mentors, the confidence and the room to figure out what she wanted her future to look like.

“Temple football and basketball are the reason I’m here, and the MSSB program has provided me with the tools that I needed to blossom into the role that I have and will also prepare me for what will come in the future of my career in collegiate athletics,” she said.

Now, more than 800 miles from the campus she dreamed about as a child, Getz is building the career she spent years trying to define.

“I do not know where I would be if it weren’t for the program, the mentors I’ve gotten through my experience, and the connections with my peers — it’s something that I will cherish forever!”
