From Hazleton to Temple: How transfer student Hailey Kaschak found her path in sport management

Hailey Kaschak, a multidisciplinary studies in sport, tourism, hospitality and event management (MSTH) major with a minor in psychology, has made the most of her time since transferring to Temple University from her hometown of Hazleton, PA.

Hometown: Hazleton, PA

Major: Multidisciplinary Studies in Sport, Tourism, Hospitality & Event Management (MSTH)

 Minor: Psychology

Drawn by what she saw on social media, Kaschak began researching Temple’s School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) and quickly realized it was the perfect fit.

“After seeing so many posts about Temple, I looked more into the STHM’s multidisciplinary studies major and discovered how amazing it is,” she said. “Also, being in Philadelphia allows for so many incredible opportunities.”

The MSTH program allows transfer students a great level of flexibility to explore all that the sport, tourism and hospitality industries offer. Students in this program can concentrate insport/entertainment management or tourism/hospitality event management.

“This transfer-friendly program is ideal for college students who have already earned 40-plus credits at another institution,” said Tom Carney, director of undergraduate enrollment at STHM.

“We ensure that students can transfer these credits directly to Temple, setting them up for still graduating in four years.”

The transfer process

Kaschak, who began her collegiate career in Northeast PA, describes her transfer process as surprisingly simple. After reaching out to administrators within STHM, she found the community welcoming and supportive.

“Everyone was super helpful,” she shared, adding that transferring the credits she had already earned made the transfer easy.

Thanks to the guidance of her academic advisors, Kaschak is ready to graduate in May.

“They really helped me stay on track to finish my degree in four years,” she said.

Getting involved on campus

As a transfer student, becoming part of Temple’s community was important to Kaschak.

Joining organizations quickly helped her settle in to her new campus home. She is active in the Eagles Autism Foundation, Women in Sport and Recreation Management student professional organization, and the university Run Club—groups that not only support her interests but also introduced her to new friends.

Kaschak’s favorite part of being a Temple Owl is the hands-on experience she’s gained.

She has worked NFL playoff games, secured an internship with Temple’s sports psychologist and connected with industry professionals who visited campus as guest speakers.

One highlight was working the 2025 NFL Conference Championship game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders at Lincoln Financial Field.

“I got to hand out rally towels as fans entered the stadium and stayed to watch the Eagles win the conference championship,” she said. “It was an unforgettable experience.”

When she’s not busy with classes or internships, Kaschak enjoys spending time at one of her favorite spots on campus—the Student Center, especially in the area near Starbucks.

Looking Ahead

Kaschak’s long-term goal is to become a sports psychologist, a career she’s passionate about as she merges her interests in both fields.
