Scholarships

The scholarships below were funded by gifts from generous donors. If you would like support our students and make a gift to a scholarship that has been endowed or needs additional funding to be endowed, visit giving.temple.edu/givetosthm, select which scholarship or fund you would like to contribute to, and enter your gift information. All gifts are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Endowed Scholarships
David Bitman Endowed Scholarship
The David Bitman Endowed Scholarship is given annually to an outstanding junior
or senior in Sport and Recreation Management with plans to pursue a master’s
degree in Sport and Recreation Administration at Temple University. Additionally,
a strong emphasis will be placed on community service when selecting the
recipient.
Eligible candidates are selected by a committee appointed by the Dean. Candidates who are planning to pursue a Master’s degree in Sport and Recreation at Temple University are identified from the Junior and Senior classes. Click Here to download application.
Marie Baker Brown Endowed Scholarship (Applications available in October/November each year)
The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships for juniors and seniors in Tourism and Hospitality Management who best exemplify the spirit of hospitality and devotion to the industry as displayed by Marie Baker Brown.
Delores W. DeShields Endowed Scholarship (Applications usually due spring of each year)
The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships for juniors or seniors enrolled in STHM who best exemplify the spirit and passion for travel and tourism that Delores DeShields displayed. The recipients should display a determination to achieve academic success, to have dreams, and to never give up through challenges and disappointments. Click Here to download application.
Joel M. and Lenore Lewis Abels Endowed Scholarship
The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships for students majoring in Tourism and Hospitality Management to honor the achievements and memories of Joel M. and Lenore Lewis Abels who best exemplify their spirit of professionalism.
Eligible candidates are selected by a committee appointed by the Dean. The Committee will contact candidates regarding submission of a resume and essay on the topic of global travel or destination management. Click Here to download application.
Delores M. Andy Endowed Scholarship
The purpose of the fund is to provide awards to graduating seniors who are receiving their degree in Sport and Recreation Management who best exemplify the spirit of volunteerism in their communities.
Eligible candidates are selected by a committee appointed by the Dean. The Committee will contact candidates regarding submission of a resume and essay on the topic of volunteerism. Candidates should have volunteer experience and a career goal of working for a nonprofit organization. Click Here to download application.
Linda Higgison Scholarship
The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships for students enrolled in the Event Leadership Certificate Program and who exemplify the passion for the events industry as displayed by Linda Higgison.
Gavin White, Jr. Scholarship Fund
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to underrepresented students
who are receiving their degree in Sport and Recreation Management in
the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, who best exemplify
Gavin's spirit of perseverance, academic excellence and community involvement.
John Mannino Endowed Scholarship
The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships for students majoring in Tourism and Hospitality Management who best exemplify the John Mannino's passion for the hospitality industry.
Eligible candidates are selected by a committee appointed by the Dean. The Committee will contact candidates regarding submission of a resume and essay on the topic of hospitality. This scholarship is based on financial need. Click Here to download application.
STHM Senior Seminar Endowed Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships to selected senior internship students in sport, recreation, tourism, or hospitality.
Eligible candidates are selected by a committee appointed by the Dean. The Committee will contact candidates regarding submission of a resume and essay. This scholarship is based on financial need. Click Here to download application.
The scholarships below were created by generous alumni, friends, faculty and staff, however, they have not yet reached the minimum $25,000 endowment level. They will be awarded once they reach endowment level.
The Tamara Gilmore Scholarship Fund
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to students enrolled in the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management who are intent on a career in hospitality and event management, with preference given to students who are under-represented in this field of study and exemplify Ms. Gilmore's professional and entrepreneurial spirit.
The Skal International Philadelphia Scholarship
Fund
The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships for students enrolled in
the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management who are intent on a career in
tourism and hospitality management, with preference given to students who demonstrate
an interest in becoming active members of Skal International.
The following awards are presented at the STHM Awards Dinner in the spring:
Outstanding Senior in Sport and Recreation Management Award
Awarded to the most outstanding member of the senior class majoring in Sport and Recreation Management, who demonstrated excellence in scholarship, service, and professional involvement.
Outstanding Senior in Tourism and Hospitality Management Award
Awarded to the most outstanding member of the senior class majoring in Tourism and Hospitality Management, who demonstrated excellence in scholarship, service, and professional involvement.
School of Tourism and Hospitality Management Promising Leader Award
Awarded to an undergraduate student who demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in the sport, recreation, tourism, or hospitality industries.
Outstanding Graduate Student in Sport and Recreation Management Award
Awarded to the most outstanding member of the graduate program majoring in Sport and Recreation Management, who demonstrated excellence in scholarship, service, and professional involvement
Outstanding Graduate Student in Tourism and Hospitality Management Award
Awarded to the most outstanding member of the graduate program majoring in Tourism and Hospitality Management, who demonstrated excellence in scholarship, service, and professional involvement.
