MINORS AND CERTIFICATES

The School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) offers a tourism and hospitality management and certificates in event leadership and destination management. These programs allow all Temple University students to enhance their education by expanding their knowledge and experience, helping them to become a more well-rounded professional.


MINOR IN TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT

The Minor in Tourism and Hospitality Management is designed to prepare students to take leadership roles in tourism and hospitality management industries. The 18 credit program integrates foundational business principles with innovative concepts related directly to the distinct industry of tourism and hospitality.


CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS

All Temple University undergraduate students may enroll in the STHM certificate programs. These 12 credit programs offer a focused approach to specific aspects of working in the tourism, hospitality and event industries.

Certificate in Event Management

The Certificate in Event Management exposes students to courses that will prepare them to lead and succeed in the dynamic world of event planning and management. The program is designed to be integrated into any major outside of STHM and will deliver marketable skills that can be applied in any field.

Certificate in Tourism and Hospitality Management

The Certificate in Tourism and Hospitality Management enhances students’ knowledge of the hospitality industry as well as the realm of tourism. The program integrates foundational business principles, tourism and destination specific knowledge as well as innovative concepts relevant to success within hospitality operations, food and beverage, gaming and event leadership.


Declaring a Minor or Certificate

Current Temple University students interested in declaring a minor or certificate in the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) can do so in two easy steps.

  1. Attend an STHM Aware and Declare Days information session.
  2. After attending an STHM Aware and Declare Days, your completed Change of Program form will be reviewed and processed by STHM’s Center for Student Services. If approved, it will be submitted electronically to the Office of the University Registrar. In 3-5 business days, the request will be processed and then visible within Self-Service Banner (Student Information).

To seek assistance in monitoring your progress, students are asked to meet with an academic advisor during walk-in hours. Students unavailable during walk-in hours and those who need to have in-depth conversations can utilize the Academic Advising Appointment System.
