About Delores W. DeShields

Delores W. DeShieldsDelores W. DeShields always showed her strong, brave, and pioneering spirit through her bright eyes and million dollar smile. After the loss of her daughter and husband, Delores rekindled her drive and passion for education and returned to school receiving her GED and later receiving her Bachelors of Science in Social Services from Antioch University. Delores pursued her professional career as a dual department manager for the JC Penney Company exhibiting that success comes in many different ways. She lived by the motto “never give up” and continued to instill this in her four sons.

Delores’ true passion in life was travel, having lived in England and traveling throughout the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. Although she loved her hometown of Philadelphia, her annual trips to Florida with her son Greg were her favorite. Delores’ special tourism belief was: “Each time I go on vacation I am looking for fun, laughter, and conversation with friends. I like to visit new places, as well as meet new people. The key words for vacation are fun and enjoyment.”

For Delores’ legacy and love for education to live on forever, the Delores W. DeShields Scholarship Fund has been established to help Temple University School of Tourism and Hospitality Management students achieve their dreams. The DeShields family has generously made the single largest contribution to the school to date. Please join them in celebrating Delores’ life by supporting this important educational initiative.
