PHD in business administration, concentration in tourism and Sport
Curriculum
Overview
The Ph.D. concentration in Tourism and Sport will consist of 15 courses, 2 examinations, 2 pro-seminars, and the Dissertation.
- 15 courses (all Doctoral level), including 4 seminars exclusive to Tourism and Sport
- Pro-seminars and workshops on various topics, including teaching and statistical software.
- A statistical competency exam (after Year 1)
- A preliminary (comp) exam (after coursework)
Programs of study may be individualized to a significant degree. The student and advisor will work together to create an appropriate program for the students' best professional and scholarly development.

Theoretical Foundations
In addition, all students must take at least four to five foundation theoretical courses from the following list:
Theoretical Foundations in Economics:
- BA 9104: Game Theory
- BA 9205: Information Economics
- BA 9301: Financial Economics
- BA 9108: Capital Markets Research
Theoretical Foundations in Key Management Disciplines:
- BA 9201: Organization and Management Theory
- IB 9001: Theories of International Business
Theoretical Foundations in the Behavioral & Social Sciences:
Courses may be selected from other departments in the University with the approval of the Concentration Advisor/Coordinator and the Ph.D. BA Program Director. Courses will be reviewed by the Doctoral Programs Committee. New Fox theoretical foundation courses may also be proposed and submitted for approval.
- 24 potential courses in programs including: Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Finance, International Business, Marketing, Management Information Systems, Risk Management & Insurance, and Strategic Management.
Methodological Foundations
Students must take at least three methodological foundation courses from the following list:

Dissertation
Students are required to demonstrate continuous registration by registering for the designations listed below, depending on their status in the doctoral program:
- THM 9994: Preliminary Examination Preparation
- THM 9998: Pre-Dissertation Research
- THM 9999: Dissertation Research
