The School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) is a nationally and internationally recognized leader for innovative research. At the heart of STHM’s mission is a striving to advance knowledge in the sport, recreation, tourism and hospitality through the cultivation of high level research.
Research is critical to a graduate student’s professional and critical development. By engaging and utilizing research and research skills, graduate students can integrate pragmatic management and administrative approaches with a critical perspective. This means that graduate students will have an unmatched understanding of the current state of the industry that is enhanced by critical abilities to predict and adapt to the trends of the future. - STHM is home to the Sport Industry Research Center (SIRC)
Under the direction of Dr. Aubrey Kent, the Sport Industry Research Center provides opportunities to explore the potential of sport to impact the communities within which they exist. Through a series of initiatives, SIRC attempts to conduct and disseminate research, educate and train executives, and functions as a think tank and informational resource for those involved in the sport industry. - STHM is home to the world’s only National Lab for Tourism & eCommerce (NLTeC)
Under the direction of Dr. Daniel Fesenmaier, the National Lab for Tourism and eCommerce conducts and facilitates high quality inter and multi-disciplinary research and development in those areas of tourism impacted by technology. To this end, NLTeC provides a unique and powerful setting for scholars and practitioners to consider the nature and role of information technology in tourism industry. Research by Laboratory faculty, staff and fellows include the following areas: advertising, business, communications, computer science, education, environmental studies, geography, marketing, management information system, psychology, and urban and regional planning. - Internationally Distinguished Faculty
