Why Enter as A Non-Matriculating Student?

Alternative Means of Admission

It's not IF you can join our program...It's WHEN. Some graduate program applicants do not meet STHM's admissions standards when they apply. Whether it is due to their undergraduate grade point average, standardized test scores or some combination of the two, many students are invited to take courses in the graduate program as a non-matriculating student. If the student is able to demonstrate strong academic peformance in these courses, formal admission to the program can be made based on that performance in some cases. (Note: decisions to ultimately admit non-matriculating students are made the Program Director of the appropriate program. This process is not automatic.)

Professional Enrichment

Many working professionals may not have the time or financial ability to fully complete a graduate program. However, as a non-matriculating student, many working professionals can take a course in a specific area of interest within our graduate program to enhance their own professional development. (Note: decisions to grant permission to take courses as a non-matriculating student are made by the Program Director of the appropriate program. Undergraduate work, professional experience and career goals will be considered.)
