Networking Opportunities

Every Fall for the more than twenty years, the school has hosted its annual Career Day event. It is typically managed and executed by Dean Montague’s Senior Seminar class. Taking place in the impressive Great Court in Mitten Hall, STHM students have the opportunity to participate in this valuable day that features an impressive list of industry partners. Students come prepared and professionally dressed, and enjoy meaningful conversations with professionals from across the Greater Philadelphia region. It is a fantastic chance to network, seek internships, schedule interviews and find out more about the Tourism & Hospitality and Sport & Recreation fields.

During the spring semester in April, a Networking Seminar has been created to provide industry related exposure. These are typically hosted and managed by Dean Montague’s Senior Seminar classes.

The STHM Networking Seminar is a special event which invites the Sport, Recreation, Tourism, and Hospitality business community to an after work/evening roundtable discussion with students. Each company/agency vendor has the opportunity to sit at a table with 8-10 students interested in learning first hand from the professionals during a 15-20 minute rotation. The senior student body selects specific issues or topics presently affecting the industry which is then recommended to the industry professionals to discuss during the roundtable event. The focus of the company/agency is to expose students to the opportunities within the company, assist students with realistic expectations upon graduation, and to answer student questions. The role of the student is to learn about industry trends, develop a professional mind set, and learn ways to market themselves for industry opportunities.

Prior to the Networking Seminar, a panel discussion moderated by a leading STHM Professor, will be held to cultivate a candid discussion on what varying sectors of these industries are looking for in employees and how one might best market their education in their job search. Additionally, panelists will provide students with a glimpse of the most critical issues facing the industries.
