Case study competitions immerse students in real-world challenges facing their professional fields, providing a unique platform to hone skills and accelerate their learning journey. These competitions foster creative thinking, teamwork and public presentation skills.  

This fall, Coleman joins Temple University’s School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management. As a member of the Class of 2027, Coleman found his fit with STHM’s sport management and analytics programs.

Ann Crockett has immersed herself in opportunities to engage with others, apply what she has learned and enjoy the journey.

Jamar Root ’22 was invited to do a senior internship at the prestigious organization Destination DC, as part of the Tourism Diversity Matters’ Diversity Apprenticeship Program. He sat down with distinguished STHM alum Sherman Neal II ’20—an attorney, marine corps veteran, college football coach and higher ed leader—to talk about career choices and finding a meaningful path.

This April the Sport and Governance Association held the third Temple Sport Business Conference. Ater a two-year hiatus and the last-minute cancellation of the 2020 conference, SAGA returned triumphantly to host top industry professionals for a packed day of panels, interviews and networking. 

STHM PhD Nataliya Bredikhina has won a highly prestigious student research competition presented by the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM), a premier professional academic association in the field.

This year, Skylar Burg ’22, a Sport and Recreation Management senior, lived the dream—all the way to the Super Bowl. Hers is a story of initiative and drive, which landed her an exceptional internship with the Los Angeles Rams, and of how she’s seized every opportunity once she got there.

This fall Temple’s Main Campus Esports Club named Cole Murray the very first student recipient of a $2,500 esports scholarship. The club raised funds for the scholarship through its first esports 24-hour live streaming event, held collaboratively with Temple’s Japan Campus on April 17–18, 2021. The School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management’s (STHM) Sport Industry Research Center (SIRC) then matched those funds.

Like many students at the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM), Jessica Lachowicz ’21 completed her degree through gaining hands-on professional experience that was tailored to her interests. However, she was one of two STHM students who had internships last spring specifically devoted to the essential issues of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Through her work with the young organization Tourism Diversity Matters (TDM), Lachowicz aided the chamber of commerce of a major travel destination in the search process for a DEI officer.

The chapter of Eta Sigma Delta (ESD) at Temple’s School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management’s (STHM) has been recognized as the recipient of the 2021 ESD Chapter of Distinction Award from the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (ICHRIE).
