The School of Sport, Tourism, and Hospitality Management (STHM) recently named Emily Robinson the recipient of the 2016 Delores W. DeShields Endowed Scholarship.

A junior Tourism and Hospitality Management major, Robinson received the scholarship at the 2016 STHM Scholarship and Awards Dinner, held April 15 at the Philadelphia Marriott.

The $1,500 annual scholarship recognizes juniors or seniors enrolled at STHM who exemplify a true spirit for travel and tourism, and honors the legacy of Delores W. DeShields, a Philadelphia native who held a passion for world travel. To commemorate DeShields’ enthusiasm for tourism and hospitality, the DeShields family generously made one of the largest endowments to STHM, to date.

“It’s really such an honor to receive this scholarship,” Robinson said. “It shows that there is a great level of support for the students of STHM. In a business that is so people-involved and people-centered, it is essential to have the support of your school. It’s confirmation that I am on the right track toward a promising career.”

Exemplifying DeShields’ perspective on tourism as a means of promoting fun and relaxation, Robinson’s interest in tourism stems from her desire to provide unique experiences to travelers. She joined STHM for the opportunity to merge her love of people with her knack for business and event planning.

Robinson has applied her skills in the industry as a Hyatt Campus Ambassador and Food and Beverage Supervisor, and she looks forward to continuing her work with Hyatt this summer. While on campus, Robinson works as a STHM Student Ambassador assisting in STHM’s daily operations, and as a Fox School of Business Student Conference Coordinator, organizing various events for students, staff, and alumni.
