PHILADELPHIA, PA (Feb. 9, 2018) —

Home-grown coffee and hospitality company, Saxbys, partnered with Temple University to bring its trailblazing Experiential Learning Program (ELP) to Temple’s Main Campus. In January, the company introduced a new ELP cafe in Speakman Hall, at the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM), run exclusively under student management, making Temple the third university in the nation to partner with the program.

To celebrate, a Grand Opening Pay-As-You-Wish Event was hosted at the new café. The all-day event featured a full schedule of celebrity baristas including STHM alumni, coaches, Philadelphia business leaders, and Temple University leadership. To fuel the newly developed Saxbys Fellowship scholarship program for Temple University students, all attendees were encouraged to pay as they wished for menu items. The total raised during the event was matched by Saxbys and STHM to triple the financial impact of the event and help students achieve their academic goals.

“Our Experiential Learning Program serves as adjunct to the incredible learning experiences students get in the class room by giving them a platform to apply their skills in a real business,” said Nick Bayer, Saxbys Founder and CEO. “We’ve always a had a special connection to Temple. This cafe will serve as a cornerstone for student engagement, collaboration and entrepreneurship.”

“We are proud to partner with Saxbys in bringing a café to Temple University’s Speakman Hall and the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management,” said Dr. Jeremy Jordan, Associate Dean at Temple’s STHM. “We’re providing incredible experiential learning opportunities for our students, and those from all of Temple’s 17 schools and colleges. The grand opening event will only further support and reinforce educational growth for students here in Philadelphia.”

As you can see from the photos, everyone who attended had a great time. A huge thanks to Saxbys and our celebrity baristas for making this event a success!
